Tryout FAQ's

Players will have the opportunity to showcase their skills through drills, small-sided games, and scrimmages in front of MN Freeze coaches and staff. Our goal is for every athlete to feel seen and have multiple chances to demonstrate their ability.

Please bring:

• A reversible jersey with a number on it
• A water bottle 
• A Basketball if you'd like.  Some will be provided.
• Arrive at least 15 minutes early for check-in and warm-up

Each player only needs to attend one tryout date. We offer two options to accommodate families who may be unavailable for one.

However, rosters may be finalized at any time.  Once a roster if full, we will shut down any tryouts for that grade.  If you are interested in joining MN Freeze, the suggestion would be to attend the first date. That will be your best chance to make the team.  

We will form one team per grade for 4th through 11th grade, based on the 2026–27 school year.  Our goal is to form the strongest teams we can to compete with the best AAU teams in the Midwest.      

4th Grade:  This is a brand new team. Rosters will be put together with all new players.

5th–11th Grade: Rosters will be put together during the tryout process with a mix of returning players and new players from tryouts.

Roster spots will be offered via email after each tryout date. Families will have 24 - 72hours to accept the offer and secure the spot with a $300 online deposit.

Offers are made at the discretion of MN Freeze staff, based on:

• Tryout performance
• Past AAU and winter season participation

Absolutely.  We do not hold "courtesy tryouts" or invite athletes simply to fill a gym or collect their tryout fees. Every player who attends a MN Freeze tryout is competing for an actual roster spot. 

For returning teams, some roster positions may already be filled by returning players. However, if a team is listed as holding tryouts, there are genuine roster spots available, and every athlete attending has a real opportunity to earn a place on that team.

We believe in being transparent throughout the tryout process. We never hold tryouts simply to evaluate players or create the appearance of opportunity.

If your daughter is in close consideration for a roster spot, she may be invited to a callback tryout. This allows coaches to make final evaluations by seeing players compete again.

No. The registration fee is a one-time fee that covers the entire tryout process.

If your child doesn’t receive an offer or callback, she has not made a team this season. We truly appreciate the effort and courage it takes to attend tryouts, and we hope she continues to pursue opportunities that are a great fit.
